What’s Going On?
OSHA’s next Hazard Communication Standard deadline is coming up this summer. In case you don't remember, the standard was revised in 2012 to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The new requirements are being phased in through 2016 to help employers with the transition.

When Is the Next Deadline?
June 1, 2015.

What Must Be Done By This Deadline?
Chemical manufacturers and importers must review hazard information for all chemicals produced and imported, classify chemicals according to the new classification criteria, and update labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) by this date.

Why Does It Matter?
OSHA anticipates that the revised standard will improve safety outcomes and prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. In fact, OSHA expects to prevent over 500 workplace injuries and illnesses and 43 fatalities annually, save American businesses more than $475 million with productivity improvements, require fewer safety data sheet and label updates, and make new hazard communication training simpler.
